When we read the Bible, God’s Spirit speaks to us on many levels. First, there are the words on the page and what those words mean in the context of that particular passage. We should always first seek to discern what the words meant to those who first heard them. What the words originally meant is always primary, but it’s hardly the only way God speaks to us.
