Yesterday, we lit the fourth Advent candle, the candle of love. In the Bible, love is not a feeling so much as it is an action. It is not so much a sentiment as it is a saving act. Those who love seek the welfare of others. Christmas is the story of God’s love for us. John put it this way in his first letter, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9).
