Day 41: A Couple’s Prayer

Cover to Cover: Psalm 44:12-68:27

Key Passage: Psalm 51

Verse of the Day: Psalm 51:10

Key events of today’s reading:

  • God is an Ever Present Help (Psalm 46)
  • Have Mercy on Me (Psalm 51)
  • The Fool Says (Psalm 53)
  • Earnestly I Seek You (Psalm 63)
  • Come and See What the Lord Has Done (Psalm 66)

Verse that stood out: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, (Selah) that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations – Psalm 67:1-2.

In a section of reading with some memorable verses, Psalm 67 sticks out for sentimental reasons. These were the verses read at my wedding. God has certainly blessed us in the last twenty years: two children that delight our souls; the privilege of serving as the pastor of three great churches with ministries that touch the world; plus, Alyson and I still really like each other.

Our prayer hasn’t changed much over the last decade. We still hope the Lord will bless us and make his face shine upon us. We don’t want him to do that just for our own good. We want to be able to be a blessing in this world as much as we want to be blessed.

I hope this is the prayer each of us pray over our lives, over our families, and over our church: Lord, let you face shine upon us that your ways may be known among the earth.

What more could a person want than that?
